Today, April 11, is the day Warner Bros. and Turner have officially launched their Boomerang subscription service, devoted to pumping an unlimited number of cartoons from its vast library into any video screen you own. The service is ad-free (subscription-based) and runs its older cartoons in their original 4×3 ratio. No nasty cropping here!

WB promised a library of over 5,000 titles, but that’s not the case just yet. The service is launching with a modest selection and the promise of more to come in future weeks and months. On launch day, we found the following categories: Atom Ant, Barney Bear, Bugs Bunny, Bunnicula, Courage the Cowardly Dog, Daffy Duck, Droopy, Foghorn Leghorn, My Gym Partner Is A Monkey, Huckleberry Hound, Looney Tunes, Magilla Gorilla, Popeye, Richie Rich, Road Runner, Scooby Doo, Smurfs, Sylvester and Tweety, Tom and Jerry, Wacky Races, Yogi Bear, and unexpectedly, the HD widescreen version of Juniper Lee that CN never broadcast back in the day, woohoo!

We can’t say for certain what shows Boomerang plans to add next, but TZ forum users did some URL snooping and found placeholders for Codename: Kids Next Door, Tom and Jerry Tales, Teen Titans (original flavor) and Captain Caveman. The service will also be putting forth original programming at some point, with a new version of Wacky Races and “Dorothy and the Wizard of Oz” in production now.

Access to Boomerang costs $5 per month or $39.99 annually (working out to $3.33 per month). Making an account grants you a risk-free 7-day trial, but those who commit to the annual fee right away will receive one extra month. Boomerang is only available in the US on iOS, Android and its website; it will expand in the future to include Roku, Apple TV and Amazon Fire TV, among possible other platforms.
